Trailer light plug wiring. Each light has it s own ground shown by the white wire that connects directly to the bed on the light brackets. The first diagram is a simple set up of two brake lights two indicators and two side lights. 4 wires will give these functions so the simplest scheme is a 4 pin connector.
Narva s plug and play waterproof connection system utilises over moulded connectors that quickly join the lamps and trailer plug to the main wiring harness. Some manufacturers will use red black wires instead of brown green yellow. Click on the image below to enlarge it.
Strip the wires solder the connection and add shrink tube. Drill the hole for the grommet using the step drill. The suggested minimum for the ground brake power and battery hot lead wires is 12 gauge.
Install the grommet and pull through the wire. The most common 4 wire connector is the 4 pin flat connector as shown here. The minimum suggested wire size for a 4 way trailer plug is 18 gauge for the turn brake and running lights.
The minimum suggested wire size for a 7 way trailer plug is 16 gauge for the turn signals brake lights reverse lights and running light wires. This connector is commonly found on most light duty trailers. When wiring trailer lights make sure to route the harness away from anything that could damage the wires.
The suggested minimum for the ground wire is 16 gauge. At a minimum all trailers need at least 4 functions. This car is designed not just to travel 1 location to another but also to take heavy loads.
