Formidable Switch 3 Way Circuit

The whole wiring a light switch project can be completed in a few hours if you don t have to do any drywall removal and repair.

Switch 3 way circuit. This might seem intimidating but it does not have to be. A 3 way circuit is a lighting circuit that allows one light fixture to be controlled by two wall switches in different locations. For example a circuit with 4 switches controlling one fixture.

For example they can be arranged so that the feed cable runs to the first three way switch then to the light fixture box then to the second three way switch. There are also four way five way and a gazillion way circuits. This is where two switches control the same light or lights.

When both switches are up the circuit is complete top right. Wires consisting of a line a load a neutral a pair of travelers and two 3 way switches. Do this before you disconnect any wires from the switches.

If your 3 way light switch 2 is connected between the power supply and the light fixture as is most common. These circuits are designed using switches known as 4 way switches between the two 3 way switches. The existing 2 wire black and white romex can still be used to connect a 3 way switch 2 and the light fixture.
