Ideal Dc Motor Connections
A dc motor direct current motor is the most common type of motor.
Dc motor connections. To connect a motor simply solder two wires to the terminals and then connect them to either the m1 m2 m3 or m4. Series wound dc motor. Compound wound dc motor.
The circular symbol represents the armature circuit and the squares at the side of the circle represent the brush commutator system. Your motor will be internally connected according to one of the diagrams shown below. If you switch the leads the motor will rotate in the opposite direction.
If you connect these two leads directly to a battery the motor will rotate. Dc motors normally have just two leads one positive and one negative. The below figure shows schematic ally the different methods of connecting the field and armature circuits in a dc motor.
Permanent magnet dc motor. The circular symbol represents the armature circuit and the squares at the side of the circle represent the brush commutator system. Compound dc motor connection the method of connection for a compound wound direct current motor is shown in figure 3 below.
There are three types of electrical connections between the stator and rotor possible for dc electric motors. Separately excited dc motor. Series shunt parallel and compound various blends of series and shunt parallel and each has unique speed torque characteristics appropriate for different loading torque profiles signatures.
One is separately excited dc motor and other is self excited dc motor. Use figure 1 if your motor has a single voltage shunt field. Like dc generators there are different types of dc motors characterized by the connections of the field winding in relation to the armature.
